Becoming a home inspector in South Dakota means working through a two-tier registration system administered by the South Dakota Real Estate Commission. You'll first apply as a Registered Home Inspector after completing your 40 hours of home inspection training and passing the National Home Inspector Examination. After at least one year as a Registered Home Inspector and submission of a completed Experience Log, you can advance to a Licensed Home Inspector. Notably, once licensed, there is no distinction between the duties and responsibilities of a licensed home inspector and those of a registered home inspector. Sioux Falls and Rapid City lead South Dakota's inspection market.
